My name is Abi Stockbridge and along with my creative partner Helen Savage, we are based in the Yellow Gallery, next to Smoke Shack, for the month of June.
We are both visual artists, and are using our time in the space for a drawing residency, which we have titled “Drawing Lab”.
We have been working in the space since late April, and have been really enjoying the blossoming creative atmosphere; thank you to everyone, and especially to David, for this unique opportunity…
We have two events planned before our time ends on June 30th.
The first is “Drawing Relay” on Saturday 17 June, between 12 noon - 6pm.
We shall be embarking upon a non-stop drawing session lasting 6 hours. This “performative drawing” event will function on many levels; affording others the opportunity to observe what is usually a private, solitary activity, ie art making. We shall communicate solely through drawing; there will be no verbal communication between us whilst we are in the “zone”. It will be a test of our endurance and focus, whilst being a dialogue between ourselves, as we strive to bring forth creative concerns, expressions, actions, producing one large scale collaborative drawing alongside individual pieces. It isn’t really possible to preempt any outcomes and we are interested to see what it might reveal… We invite everyone to come along and observe us at any stage during the day, for as long or as short a time as you wish…we also invite you to take photographs during the event, which can be shared on insta using the hashtag #drawinglab to create a record of this event, from multiple viewpoints…
Our second event will be an exhibition of drawings from our residency, previewing on Wednesday 28 June between 6-9pm. This will also be the launch of our creative/curatorial partnership Savage*Stockbridge. It is anticipated that fellow creatives Duncan Brown Studio and Maria Kyanos of the Sound Apothecary will hold events on this night also; (to be confirmed) It should be a bumper-packed night!
